WHAT WE DO
Our services are aimed at prevention, early intervention, services to orphans and vulnerable children, treatment, statutory services and developmental services.
1. POVERTY ERADICATION
1.1 Skills training (home management course and sewing course, sewing projects).
1.2 Income-generating projects (sewing , computer courses and sale of second hand clothes).
1.3 Social relief (grocery vouchers, food hampers, feeding projects, petty cash for birth documents and in some instance busfares dependent on the cases).
1.4 HIV and Aids support and counselling services.
2. CHILD AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
2.1 Life skills Sessions Self-awareness, problem solving and conflict resolution, relationships, peer pressure and sexuality education.
2.2 Education and Awareness Programmes Child abuse, child protection skills and HIV/Aids awareness.
2.3 Capacity Building and Leadership Workshops Life skills, leadership training, HIV/Aids, gender and cultural diversity, career orientation.
2.4 Social Enrichment Programmes Excursions and special parties (Foster children, orphans and other vulnerable children).
3. SURVIVOR SUPPORT SERVICES
3.1 Counselling and support services to victims of abuse viz. women and children.
3.2 Women empowerment – education on women’s rights and available resources.
4. STATUTORY SERVICES
4.1 Securing the future care of children who have become vulnerable as a result of being orphaned, abused, abandoned and those presenting behavioural problems.
4.2 Statutory placements of children in foster care.
4.3 Adoption or institutional care.
4.4 Counselling, investigation and screening of foster parents.
4.5 Supervising children in foster care or in institutional and providing re-unification services to natural parents of these children.
5. HIV/AIDS
5.1 Awareness programmes in communities.
5.2 Counselling and support services to HIV infected persons and children.
5.3 Support services to children affected by HIV/Aids including statutory care.
5.4 Treatment programmes – volunteers trained on home based care, support and counselling.
WHO BENEFITS
The Society services the Magisterial District of Inanda.
The area of operation extends from Mount Edgecombe on the South to Cottonlands in the North to Umhloti Beach in the East and Tea Estate Inanda in the West.
The area of operation covers a radius of approximately 30km and a population of approximately 100 000. Approximately 80 % of the caseload is made up of Blacks.
The area incorporates the following townships and informal settlements: Cottonlands, Canelands, Umhloti Drift, Bars Flat, Temple Valley, Valdin Heights, Waterloo, Burnside, Mount Edgecombe, Inanda, Tea Estate, Blackburn Estate, Waterloo Estate, Bellamont Estate, Broadlands, Umhloti Beach, Buffelsdraai, Trenance Park (Old Phase), K.P. FUNDING
A portion of the social work salaries are funded by the Dept of social Development. The balance of the salary costs and operational costs of the society inclusive of programme funding is fund raised by the Board of Management.
